Martin J. Sweeney, Jr. passed away June 15, 2011. He was born on May 22, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Martin is survived by his wife Rosemary (Faust), five children: Kathleen (Jerry) Helderman, Greenwood, IN, Michael Sweeney, Bloomington, IN, Jim (Tracy) Sweeney, Charlotte, NC, Jeanne (Ray) Bowling, Noblesville, IN, Rob (Lizza) Sweeney, Irvine, CA; five grandchildren: David and Christopher Helderman, Tara and Jena Sweeney (Jim), Kelly Sweeney (Rob); sister, Helen (Rod) Webre, Bend, OR.
Martin graduated from Serra High, CA, received his B.S. degree from Santa Clara University, CA, received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from St. Louis University and did his post-doctoral research at the Indiana University School of Medicine. After two years in the Army Chemical Corps, Frederick, MD, he joined Eli Lilly and researched cancer drugs. He co-founded BetaMed Pharmaceuticals.
Visitation will be at Harry W. Moore, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN on Monday, June 20 from 11-1 p.m. and church service will be at St. Pius Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, IN at 2 p.m. The burial will be on Tuesday, June 21 at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 East 38th Street, Marion, IN at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Kidney Foundation or American Diabetes Foundation.

    So sorry to hear about Martin. We were just in Indiana at Ball State for my son’s orientation and when we went through Indianapolis I thought of all of you. Then for some reason when we got home I looked at the paper and saw this. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
